Our clients is an internationally recognised independent scientific organisation established nearly 40 years ago. They have Regional Asbestos offices throughout the UK. They are the major independent UK centre of research, problem solving and training in the fields of occupational and environmental health, hygiene and safety. They work for national and international government agencies, trade associations, industry and commerce. Our client also provides top quality analytical and advisory services to industry throughout the UK and overseas.

They have thriving services and consultancies businesses. Their doctors, asbestos specialists, occupational health physicians and nurses, occupational hygiene and safety specialists, chemists, physicists and ergonomists provide services to a wide range of industrial, commercial and public organisations.. The work extends from the analysis of single samples through to providing ongoing strategic consultancies. They provide a wide range of consultancy, training and other services for industrial, commercial and local authority clients. They currently have approximately 110 staff.


This is a newly formed Asbestos Division, consisting of our established site teams in Scotland, East & West Midlands and London. Current staff numbers are in the region of 30. We provide a comprehensive asbestos management service to a wide variety of UK clients, including the following activities:

" Building surveys and re-inspections
" Monitoring and supervision of asbestos removal / remediation
" Advice to property owners and managers, and the provision of management plans
" Problem solving in relation to asbestos management
" Maintenance of asbestos registers and databases

Analysis of asbestos containing materials is provided by the Mineralogy Section of the companies Analytical Services Division.

Our clients holds UKAS accreditations for asbestos sampling, analysis and surveying.

The post carries financial and managerial responsibility for the asbestos services business, extending to:

" Development and implementation of an effective business strategy for the asbestos services business, within the overall business strategy
" Overseeing all operational activities
" Scheduling work and ensuring on-time service delivery
" Accountability for profit and loss
" Adherence to Health, Safety and Environment legislation, policies and procedures, ensuring that all work is undertaken in a demonstrably safe manner and that all staff have regular training in all health & safety issues relating to their work
" Maintaining excellence in customer service and key account management
" Maintaining excellence in quality of work
" Line management of staff, including training, development and performance management
" New business development in conjunction with the Sales and Sales support team
" Ensuring that quality systems and UKAS accreditations are maintained and adhered to, with the support of the Quality Manager
" Maintaining our HSE Supervisory Licence.
" Maintaining a strong working relationship with the Mineralogy laboratory
" Ensuring a spirit of cooperation across all asbestos teams and locations
" Ensuring that, wherever possible, working practices are consistent and compatible across all locations

The post holder will be a member of our clients Senior Management Team, and will report to the CEO.

The successful applicant will extensive knowledge in the field of asbestos management, measurement and assessment. He or she will have a thorough understanding of the asbestos services market, and several years of experience of managing substantial teams in this area of service, with responsibility for financial performance.

He or she will have the leadership and communication skills to inspire high performance in what is a demanding and highly competitive business sector.

The salary for this position is flexible and will depend principally on previous experience.

The post holder will be based at one of the Regional offices established throughout the UK.
